by Attiya Gamri Thursday, 20 April, a group of 100 fascistic Turks attacked the 45 Assyrians-Suryoye hunger strikers. During the past days several small groups of Turks tried to provocate the Assyrians-Suryoye. Real problems did not take place until the night of Thursday the twentieth. After the soccer match between the English Leeds United and the Turkish Galatasaray a group of Turkish extremists drove to the place of the Hunger Strike to show the Turkish victory. This soccer match was very controversial, because after the first of these two UEFA tournament matches, two English spectators were killed by the Turks two weeks ago. The first group of the Turkish extremists attacked the Hunger Strikers around midnight and got beaten up by the Assyrians-Suryoye. They fled and called the other Turks for assistance. The Assyrians-Suryoye knew this would happen and informed the Assyrian-Suryoyo community also. When the angry Turks arrived in large numbers, they were surprised by the huge Assyrians-Suryoye presence! Dozens of Assyrians-Suryoye members of the Assyrian Mesopotamian Association of Enschede and the Tur Abdin Association of Hengelo (both associations consist of almost completely of ADO supporters) and PROB sympathizers ran out of their beds and drove as fast as they could to be at the place of the Hunger Strike before the Turks would arrive. Another truly inspiring phenomenon was the large presence of the so-called "Criminal Assyrian-Suryoye Youth" of Enschede and Hengelo. These youngsters, often portrayed by local media as being very criminal and aggressive during the night-life of the cities of Enschede and Hengelo (both cities consisting of large Assyrians-Suryoye communities), did not need to think twice when they heard that the Turks were going to attack their community members who were carrying the Hunger Strike. " They have killed hundreds of thousands of us in Turkey, we will not let that happen here! " said one of them. This action shows that these Assyrian-Suryoyo youngsters love their nation and have not turned their backs to their people. " Even in the night-life we always stick together!" stated another one laughing. The police came between them with the police dogs and prevented a huge fight. The total number of Assyrians-Suryoye was about 150 and they refused to turn home and leave the 45 Hunger Strikers alone on the request of the police. Till sunrise the Assyrians-Suryoye stayed together. This picture is the front page of the newspaper "Twentsche Courant: TUBANTIA" of the next morning (Friday the 21st).
